Tools it would work with
Questions before the sale
Some products need explaining: will this part fit my model, which boot is warmer, can this go in the washing machine. Customers who can't get an answer often don't buy, and staff who know the catalog well are rarely free to pick up the phone.
How the planned Product Inquiry Assistant is meant to work
The planned assistant would answer questions about sizes, materials, dimensions, compatibility and care from approved product information, compare products when a customer is choosing, check product details in your connected store and take a message when something isn't covered. It would only state specifications that are in your approved information and wouldn't give safety-critical or installation advice beyond the manufacturer's instructions. This assistant is planned and not available yet.

E-commerce Customer Support can answer product questions from your own material now:
- Knowledge base: add product descriptions, size guides and specification sheets as approved knowledge. Text and Markdown documents work, or import product pages one at a time and approve the sections (knowledge base help).
- Business details: fill in your shipping, returns and support details so it can answer the follow-up questions too.
- Additional instructions: tell it to say when a specification isn't in its information and offer to take a message instead of guessing.
- Transfer list: add the people who know your products best.
- Channels: turn on SMS, WhatsApp and website chat so shoppers can ask where they are.
It answers only from what you've approved, so the quality of its answers follows the quality of your product information. See support for online stores.
Product Inquiry AI Assistant: questions
Is it available now?
No. The Product Inquiry Assistant is planned and not available yet. You can use the E-commerce Customer Support today, and you can join early access to hear when the Product Inquiry Assistant is ready.
Where does it get product information?
From the details and approved knowledge you add, such as size guides and specification sheets, and — with Shopify connected (Beta) — product information from your store.
Can I upload PDF spec sheets?
Not yet. Documents can be .txt or .md files; you can also import web pages and approve the sections (details).
What if a customer asks something not in my information?
It should say it doesn't have that detail and take a message for your team rather than guess.
Will it give installation or safety advice?
Only what is in the approved manufacturer instructions you add. It won't improvise safety-related advice.
Can it read product data from my store?
Yes, with Shopify connected (Beta) the built E-commerce Customer Support assistant can look up product information. For detail your store doesn't hold, add it to the knowledge base.
