US mobile carriers filter business texts from numbers that aren't registered. Until your number is registered, texts you and your assistant send may be delayed or not delivered.
What's required
- Local numbers need 10DLC registration: your business and how you use texting are registered with the carriers.
- Toll-free numbers need toll-free verification.
Getting registered
Contact support from Support in the dashboard and say which numbers you want to text from. We'll tell you what the carriers need. It's worth having ready:
- your legal business name, address and website,
- what you'll text about, for example appointment reminders or replies to customer questions,
- a couple of example messages you'd send.
While you wait
- Calls work normally. Registration only affects texting.
- Inbound texts still reach Conversations.
- Replies, from the assistant or your team, may not reach customers reliably.
Good practice
- Only text people who contacted you or agreed to hear from you.
- Say who you are in your first message.
- Keep texts about what the customer asked for.
WhatsApp is separate
WhatsApp doesn't use carrier registration. It has its own rules, set by Meta. See WhatsApp.
