An AI receptionist for auto repair shops

RingMind can answer your shop's phone while the service desk is busy, take appointment requests with the vehicle details, and answer routine questions. The dedicated auto repair assistant isn't built yet.

What callers ask a repair shop

"Can you fit in an oil change tomorrow?" "Do you work on hybrids?" "How much is a brake inspection?" "Is my car ready?" The service writer is with a customer at the counter, and the technicians can't stop to answer the phone.

Where the auto repair assistant stands

A dedicated auto repair assistant is in RingMind's catalog but hasn't been built and tested yet. This page shows its live status. Today, the general business receptionist handles these calls with your shop's details.

What it does for a repair shop

  • Takes service appointment requests with the caller's name, best number, vehicle make, model and year, and what's wrong or what service they want. It reads them back.
  • Books when a calendar is connected. With Google Calendar or Calendly, it can offer open drop-off times. Without a calendar, it takes a request your service desk confirms.
  • Answers from your details: hours, address, the makes you work on, services, and any prices you list, such as a fixed price for an oil change.
  • Takes messages for the service desk, marked urgent when the caller needs it.
  • Transfers callers to up to five people, such as the service writer, once a RingMind number is connected.

What it won't do

  • It won't diagnose a car from a description of a noise.
  • It won't quote repair costs that aren't in your details.
  • It can't tell a caller whether their car is ready. It has no view into your shop management system. It takes a message for the service desk instead. If your system can receive requests, a custom webhook tool or an n8n workflow is the place to start; that's something you build and test yourself.
  • It never takes card numbers, and it says it's an AI if asked.

Setting it up

  1. Choose the general business receptionist on the AI assistants page.
  2. Enter your hours, address, services and the makes you service.
  3. Add FAQs to the Knowledge Base: loaner cars, shuttle service, warranty work, how long common jobs take.
  4. Publish, run the tests and try booking a service in the playground.
  5. Get a RingMind number and connect it.

After the call

Every call is saved with a transcript. Requests and messages arrive in Calls & Messages, where your service desk can turn them into tasks. Look up customer invoices in QuickBooks Online if you connect it (Beta). RingMind doesn't send automatic texts after a call; see what to do about missed calls.

Limits to know

US and Canada numbers only, no porting yet, no outbound calls, and no time-of-day rules. Plans are on the pricing page.

Questions

Is there an assistant made for auto repair?

One is in the catalog but not built yet; this page shows its live status. Today you can use the general business receptionist with your shop's services and details.

Can it tell customers when their car is ready?

No. It can't see your shop management system, so it takes a message for the service desk.

Can it book service appointments?

Yes, if you connect a calendar such as Google Calendar, Calendly or Microsoft Outlook. Otherwise it takes a request your team confirms.

Will it quote repair prices?

Only prices you list in your business details. It won't estimate a repair from a description.
